Single Chair Magic Hat

Magic Hat Single Chair is a golden ale, that is brewed in Vermont. This golden ale got the name single chair because of skiing. Everybody wants to ride a Single Chair up to the top of the mountain and not have to share a lift up with anyone This lift is at Mad River ski resort in Vermont. This beer usually was sold at ski resorts because of the name, now its become available for all.  When taking my first whiff of the aroma from the beer I could not help but think of a dough aroma. You know when you are making dough and you first start to smell the dough rising that is the aroma I picked up when smelling this beer for the first time. Looking at this beer, a beer enthusiast can pick up the golden color on the beer from the Ale. In addition the beer has a light quality of a pilsner. This blending of to different beers gives Single Chair it's own uniqueness and rarity.

When diving in for the first taste of this beer one can pick up the malt focus on this beer. I also picked up on the Dry-Hopping process in the beer. I usually am not a fan of hops in beers like India Pale Ales, but when the beers are made right where you do not get the bitter taste of the hops, I am a fan of. Single Chair was brewed right masking the bitter taste of the hops with the sweetness from the malt. That changes the complexity of the beer and makes it very easy to drink. Another way besides tasting the beer and finding out that it has a low bitter yet smooth taste is to look at its IBU, which stands for International Bittering Units. When looking at beers some people want their beer to be very bitter and strong hop taste, which would be a high IBU. Others when drinking beer are not looking for bitter beers and a strong hop taste in their beers, which would require a low IBU. Single Chair has an IBU of 17, which would put this golden ale on the low scale for IBU's. When drinking this beer there is no aftertaste like some beers will leave in your mouth and single chair just goes down so smoothly. 

Single Chair is a seasonal beer from Magic Hat Brewing Company. I can understand why this beer is around from January to April. It is a perfect beer to enjoy after shoveling snow or going out on the mountains and skiing. When looking at this beer and trying to rate the quality of beer, it is very hard, because Single Chair cannot be looked at as one beer. The blending of the pilsner style and the golden ale style make rating this beer difficult. I think that I would rate this beer as a 81 because of the smooth blending of the two different styles of beer and the smooth taste of the beer.

I would recommend this beer for anyone that is looking for a very good seasonal beer that enjoys the winter weather, like myself.
