312 Urban Wheat Ale

Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale

312 Urban Wheat Ale is made by Goose Island from Chicago, Illinois. Goose Island was established in 1988 and has come to become known for making really good craft beer. I have had a Goose Island beer before and it was their Oktoberfest beer, which I was pleasantly surprised.  The color of this beer is a straw color, which is a clear golden tint to the beer. Almost looks like a pilsner style beer but is a pale wheat ale that gives in the clearer color. 312 Urban Wheat Ale is 4.2 % alcohol by volume and the IBU of this beer is 18, this beer is an unfiltered ale so make sure you pour it right to give it the right style it deserves. In unfiltered beers there is usually sediment of yeast at the bottom of the beer which if not mixed changes the complexion of the beer, so when you pour a beer like this you should do the following. Start by pouring out  three quarters of the beer and leave a quarter left in the beer, after this the swish the beer around in the bottle as to mix it. Lastly pour the remaining beer into the glass to get the full flavor of the beer,

Now stepping into the aroma flavors that you can pick up from this beer. The aroma I pick up from the beer is a malty one and hint of fruit aroma that has a citrus profile to it. I think it could be lemon or and orange aroma I just cannot decide which one it is. After gaining the aroma of the beer I really want to try this Urban Wheat Ale and see what I could taste and if I liked it. I took three quick little sips of this beer and it was a light tasting wheat beer that reminded my of a Hefeweizen style of beer. This beer is very crisp and very appealing in my opinion. I think if it was put up against other wheat beers I would probably choose this because of its light complexion and too filling beer like most wheat beers are. 312 Urban Wheat Ale does have a smooth creamy complexion and thats what I think makes this such a refreshing beer. Goose Island did a great job hiding the cascade hops in this beer because I know that I am not usually a fan of any beer with them in it because they are usually IPA's, but I cannot even pick it up in the beer. I think that this would be a great spring and summer ale because of its crisp light tasting flavor.

Give this refreshing beer a try in the summer

Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale has won some very prestigious awards. They are World Beer Cup Silver Medal in 2008 and a Gold Medal in 2010 from the Great American Beer Festival. I look forward to trying some of Goose Islands other beers and trying some summer style beers real soon.
